Need advice on buying a first laptop

I'm currently studying at uni and and I'm looking at getting my first laptop.
It needs to be running windows, have a fairly decent battery life and not too heavy.
I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15z, Lenovo Thinkpad X1 and the toshiba Portege R835 as possible options, but i'm option to suggestions. Budget wise i would like to stay under $1500.
Any advice is appreciated!
