Jul 13, 2006 1:15PM PDT

I have several laptop I am looking at, but I need to know the quality of the graphics cards. Of the radeon xpress200m geforce go 7400 with 128 mb dedicated, and the geforce go 7600 with 128 dedicated and 128 shared which is best?

The GeForce Go 7600 is by far the best choice. The 7400 is just a slower cousin to the 7600. And you most definitely want to avoid the Radeon Xpress 200M: that's slow, integrated video (like Intel's GMA950) which is only really useful for 2D and very old 3D games.

Thank you but by how much?

I knew the radeon 200m was the slowest, but how much slower is the geforce 7400 then the 7600. The only laptop I can find that is not a dell and is under $1500 with the config I want is the HP dv8000t, and that is a 17 inch widescreen and 8 pounds so Id rather go for its smaller cousin the 6.5 pound dv5000t, I can get it just as powerful excepr for the graphics card which is a 7400. Is the 7400 a whole lot slower then the 7600, or just a bit?

(NT) (NT) 7400 is a decent amount slower, its the bargain chip

Somebody was playing painkiller on a laptop a few months ago. It was outfitted with a turion 1.8 3/4 of a gig of ram and the graphics card im not sure of. Im pretty sure the turion model can only get the ati radeon xpress 200m. Is that the case, because he was playing it fairly decently without much slowdown, and if the 200m can do that, and the geforce go 7400 is substantially faster then I will be fine with the 7400

Is it?

Does anyone know of any HP laptop that has a turion processor and a video card better then the 200m. I want to make sure.

(NT) (NT) it goes 200m, then 7400, then 7600

Im not an ultra heavy gamer. Just Sims 2 and warcraft 3 etc.

I dont need an absolute top of the line graphics card. Just something better then that Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 crap. They have some great laptops at circuit city with 2 Gigabytes of ram and 120 GB Hard Drives. They just have crappy graphics cards (GMA950). I have a budget of 1300 and I was lookin at the dv5000t with geforce go 7400. Is that good enough for sims 2 and battlefield 2? If not, would the dv8000t with geforce go 7600 be good enough for those games?

The geforce go 7600

What is it capable of. Can it play Oblivion? And Ive seen what oblivion looks like at the really low settings where you can barely see 20 feet. I dont want that. I mean can you play it at reasonable settings. Or could this thing not even play warcraft 3 at high settings and still run smooth? What can this do?

Gaming performance of the 7600

It should be able to play Oblivion at reasonable settings, but not much more than that. Warcraft 3 should play perfectly.

Thank you very much

Thats cool. I figured I would avoid the desktop replacement laptops due to their size and lack of portability. But on the other hand I went on the nvidia site and it looks like the 7600 is considerably more powerful then the 7400. Also do you know if a 1.6ghz core duo would slow me down during gaming? Do I need to go for a faster processor, because I am already pushing my budget

Re...

Ok. Now you must do your choice.

I agree with you on the desktop replacement idea. I never recommend to buy a desktop replacement which has a 17" display. It's not a laptop anymore !

On my European forum, for gaming, I always recommend ASUS because it is a very popular brand on the other side of the ocean. ASUS makes very good laptops which delivers good performances. My friend plays Oblivion IV ( well the last ) with its ATi Mobility Radeon X1600 at more than resonable settings. A6JA Serie looks very nice.

In America, it's another story. There is not a ton of 15.4" laptop with an ATi X1600. My favourite with this graphics chip is the MacBook Pro, one of the fastest Core Duo based laptop.

To be safe, take a Core Duo T2400 clocked at 1.83 GHz.
