General discussion

need a video editing program

Nov 28, 2006 8:42PM PST

I am trying to take a video in DVD format and add some music to it. Sounds simple enough? I have tried Muvee Auto Producer 5 that SHOULD do exactly what I want, but the video comes out all jerky and chopped up. What software should I be trying and can I get a trial download off it to see if it works for me? Thanks, Bill

Next time, don't start with DVD.

Start with your video source since ripping from a DVD is frankly "iffy."

Look at first ripping the DVD content to a file the video editors like. For editing I prefer Sony Vegas.

Editing Programs

Vegas 7 is a nice software, but pretty spendy, and way too much if you are just a casual video editor. I have Adobe Premiere 6.5, and Vegas 5, but I do quite a bit of video. There are a couple of editors that will edit mpeg2, but it doesn't always turn out that great. You could demux the dvd into files that you could edit, but with every change to your dvd files, you lose a little quality. Check out womble mpeg editor, and look at www.videohelp.com, in the tools section.

As a previous poster stated, if you want to edit video, it's best to get it in .avi, or dv-avi format.
