Need a solution for my car at the parking lot!

Oct 31, 2008 3:40PM PDT

Hi everyone, most of us have the habit of forgetting something particular all the time. I always end up forgetting my car at the parking lot. I am somewhat not comfortable in saying this, but yes, there have been many instances like this with me and I can?t help myself out. I do remember to carry my iPhone with me but am helpless on the issue of my car. There might be someone like me who can answer my problems as to what do they do or would hope some good suggestions from you people so that I can be comfortable when finding my car in the lot.

Thanks in advance!

If your car as a "auto unlock feature" which may blink the lights, use that or have it installed or any similar options that car installers now do. The easiest and cheap method is placing some form of attachment to your radio antenna, if it remains up, like a flag or foam do-dad.

However, if you're like me at times, due to long period and frequent trips, make a note, place in wallet/purse to remind you using the locater posts marking.

Finding your car.

There are a few ways you could do this using your iPhone.

If you're using an iPhone 3G, there are plenty of cheap apps in the Apple iTunes App Store that will mark your parking spot. Simply search for parking.

For free, you could just fire up Google maps, click the current location button, and drop a pin where your vehicle is when you get out of your car. To get back to your car, just click the pin and navigate to it. I've not tested the accuracy of the iPhone's GPS, but it's better than nothing.

If your iPhone doesn't use GPS you could fire up the notes app and jot down a few landmarks. Oftentimes, in really big parking lots, the lightposts are marked with numbers to assist lost parkers, just jot the one closest to your car down in the notepad. Once you get to the lightpost, just use your vehicle's alarm chirp--if it is so equipped--to point you in the right direction.

Another solution.

Alternatively, you could just use your camera to take a picture of the area around your car, for example the level and spot number of a parking deck. When it's time to get back to your car, pull up the photo viewer.

A little creativity and a combination of these techniques and you should be lost no more. Of course, now you have to remember to do these things when you get out of the car!
