General discussion

need a recommendation on a great tri-mode phone for Verizon

May 16, 2005 3:28AM PDT

I live in Vermont.... need a tri-mode phone and couldn't care less about all the whistles and bells...exception for one thing... I want great reception...a phone that holds the call in fringe areas... and gets reception where others done.

My 3rd Star Tac has failed..and I am ready to upgrade to the lastest and greatest...

I don't care about camera, mp3, etc, etc... and fortunately money is no object... my only requirement.. a phone with great reception.

Any recommendations... much appreciated.

Thanks.

Alan

I have

The Samsung SCH-a650 and it is a very basic tri-mode phone. I have been very happy with it. Generally it works very well, does what it is supposed to do, make and receive calls. Really cannot complain, if you want a basic one. I also travel alot to Vermont and New Hampshire and it works very well there, switches to analog whenever necessary.

Samsung a650

I also have the Samsung a650. I bought it for a basic tri-mode phone. I live in Gary Indiana, where it's nearly all-digital. I got it mainly because when I go into lower Michigan, I roam on Alltel and there are still some areas that are still analog. Not as much as it was back in 2002. It's still analog on the Michigan side of the state line for Alltel, while Verizon Wireless on the Indiana side is digital. It has worked great for me for phone calls, and in more areas than my old Motorola 120c. If there's still plenty of analog towers around your area, then this is the phone you need. Where I live, my phone rarely goes into analog, even in Lowell Indiana, where I work at, where Verizon Wireless doesn't even have a tower in town.

a650 in the car?

Anybody have experience connecting a650(SCH-a650SSV from Verizon) to carkit? I bought the portable hands-free kit HKT060ABE and it makes a physical connection/power, but no sound through the speaker. Unfortunately the company that sold me the kit did not include instructions so I'm unclear if I'm missing some crucial setup step.
Thanks
