Even FORMAT can render disks with unrecoverable data. Just invoke the full format and not the QUICK format...

You may be working too hard.

Still not good enough? Get a bulk eraser.

what to do with 10 yrs worth of old floppies?
Sep 5, 2004 5:00AM PDT

so bob/ anybody, I have two boxes of floppies here, some of them (I don't know which without looking ) may have sensitive info like my ss# . . . so I hesitate to pitch them without checking/ erasing. once checked, do I just throw them out or is there a way to recycle them? how long do they last? should I keep them and re use or do they get old? help - fj

The answer to your subject question is simple. YOUR CHOICE.

It's just my opinion that the simple format would render all the information gone except for FBI forensic teams. Taking into account that the full format is used, then a diskette would be "ok" if it formatted with no error or bad sectors. If it has such, just cut the diskette in two and toss it.

Best of luck,

Too easy. . .

1.) Full format.

2.) Hammer.

3.) Sissors to cut the Mylar disk (the magnetic portion) in half, or several pieces.

If the FBI can recover that data they can walk on water.
