Need a laptop for about 500 bucks

I'm a light user (some college papers, maybe one game on the system at any given time) but do tons of surfing. I would say that 95% of my laptop time is spent on the web. I almost never bring it anywhere except for maybe the next room. I'm looking for a laptop that I can put a moderate amount of mp3's on, watch streaming video without hiccups, and maybe play some addictinggames on without having to leave the room while the computer chokes on trying to switch between chrome pages. I'm looking to spend in the neighborhood of 500 bucks. Any good ideas? ASUS keeps popping up in my searches, but I'm wary.
