Need a good USB drive...suggestions, please

Jun 22, 2004 11:27AM PDT

Hi.
I am in need of a good USB drive. I work at a computer repair store. I think 512 is probably a good size, that's what most of the guys have. I've looked at the Sony Microvault...what do you guys think about that...aside from that, am i going to have to spend more than 100 dollars for this? How much are they? Please give some reccomendations@! thnx.

If I were you, I'd stay away from the Sonys...their form factor is excellent, hands down, but they have a tendency to overprice.

What you should do is to pick up a card reader (a USB device that you can plug in memory cards to and make it act like a removeable drive) and a 512 CompactFlash card.

I would grab a reader and card, but this is something i need for around the shop, and i need it to be as few components as possible. Readers and such have more c ompatability problems and aren't as easy to use, or so I've heard. keep the suggestions coming!

The size is up to what you need to carry around. For me, the USB drive I have is all of 128MB and is just my third layer of dataloss prevention as I take it with me everywhere. If the house burns to the ground, I have the core items of what I don't want to lose with me.

I find these to be COMMODITY items and worthwhile additions to my "stuff."
