Need a durable laptop. Rugged is overkill

Nov 18, 2009 6:18AM PST

Are there any laptops that can take some abuse. My kids and dog are tough on my current gateway. H2O Spilled on the left side ww doesn't wwork missing k key. The dvd/cd player fell out, but it works. That's the major damage which took place in one year. (I have to copy and paste ww) . Less than $1000 budget. Intel duo core. Speedy processor -- or whatever the thing is that makes the computer fast. thanks

This is where the Toughbook shines. But...

Why get a laptop for this? Maybe a desktop is the right choice here. DVDRW drives are 20 or so bucks. Keyboards can be 20 or less so maybe no laptop for them?

I'm aware of the above modifications. The issue is mobility. we need one computer that can go on the road, and around the house.

thanks

Then get a NETBOOK.

The desktop would be durable and cheap to fix. The Netbook would be 299 or less and do the road work.

Even a good desktop and a netbook would be less than a durable Toughbook.

Many to fit your need...

Part of the thing here is that you're going to want to go get your hands on the units and see the different models so that you can choose one that "feels" rugged enough for you, but doesn't cost the $ that an actual ruggedized notebook costs.

You can check out a ton of laptops in the PC Scout from Windows - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pc-scout/laptop-set-criteria.aspx?mode=landing.
