Resolved Question

need a compact point and shoot for basics

Aug 22, 2012 1:53AM PDT

I have a Canon Powershot SX20IS which takes great pictures and videos if a person knows what they are doing I still need to get lessons to make the most of this camera. Only problem is that it is so big to lug around all the time so I would like to get a compact point and shoot that would fit in my purse.
I dont't have a decent camera on my cellphone which is not a smartphone so it would be nice to have something with me on most occasions.
I recently bought a new Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ7 for $120 with case and memory card. It takes nice crisp pictures in daylight and it is not terrible in low light but the video is just ok.
Would I be better getting a compact point and shoot without as many features but one that thake crisp outdoor and indoor pictures with a little zoom. I can always bring my Canon to places where I may want to video.
So, bottom line, should I stick with my new Panasonic Lumix for the "carry in my purse or pocket" or is there a different camera that you can suggest?
(I mainly take family pictures, especially my grandchildren.)
Look forward to any advice Thank uou!

Stick with it

You're not going to find better in the same size as the SZ7, or at least not enough of a difference to justify getting something else.

Thank you for the reply. I do think that for the price, this camera takes great pictures in daylight and ok in indoor lighting. I don't have to shoot videos but the option is always there.
I guess for my needs, I really need both the canon and the Panasonic. I just wish they had a video providing instruction for the manual settings for the canon. Any ideas?

I never thought of this. I am sure that I will learn from this.
