Question

NEC Plasma

I inherited a NEC plasma PX-50XM3A. Is there a way to hook this up to a newer standard cable box?

Answer
On the plus side, it is Plasma.

But the specs explain why they parted with it.
" Optimized for presentations
1365x768 WideXGA res.
3-2 pull down converter "

The biggest issue with the PX-50XM3A is that it does not have DHCP on the DVI port. This means there is no supported way to run today's cable box to this display.

GRAB THIS PDF AND PUT IT ON CD to be kept with this monitor.

OK, this would be best with some PC connected with VGA. The lack of HDCP will likely cause BluRay and other protected content to not play. The COMPONENT INPUT would be useful but that is now rare as it was sunset in 2010 and most cable boxes no longer come with component output.

-> ANY convertor would have to be tested. No one will support you. Get over that and be sure any convertor you try has a money back no question option (like Amazon Prime.)

99% of today's cable or sat boxes lack DVI output. The OP is SOL.

I've connected to DVI from cable boxes.

But it took the right cable or adapter, but the target device had to have HDCP or game over.
Of course we still had to deal with getting sound working.

I didn't write that.

But it was not designed for use directly with the cable box so you'd need a HDCP stripper and those are illegal in most countries for obvious reasons. Hooking up to a PC is the easy out.
