NC8000 + Pentium M 765 (2.1GHz)

by mikegill / May 13, 2006 3:04 AM PDT

Dunno if anyone here has experience with HP laptops but...

Is there any way to check if the BIOS on the nc8000 will allow me to upgrade to a Pentium M 765 processor aside from actually plugging the processor itself (which I still have to buy - there is a clearance here that has one for sale) into the NC8000 mobo of course?

I tried booting into the BIOS but cannot find any sort of name/designation for the BIOS (currently I have a PM 735 installed) - I'm guessing it's HP specific and HP support is giving me the usual corporate runaround.

Has anyone here tried anything like this before?

For the NC8000, HP had a PM 755 configuration that they sell but as the PM 765 is a more recent development I don't know if the BIOS will be able to recognize it.

Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!
