Question

Navigate by folder in iTunes?

Jan 12, 2015 10:41PM PST

I'm new to iTunes and now I'm forced to use it to listen to music on my new iPad.

Some background: on my iMac I have a lot of folders with mp3 files, each folder name is "Album Title & Artist" all in one string. Some of my mp3 files have mp3 tags, but others don't. I'm unwilling to classify my mp3 files by tag, I just want to classify them by folder name!

Question: How can I import one folder of music in iTunes and make it automatically classified with album name = folder name? When I drag the folder it imports as "unknown album" and I don't want to classify this again, as I already have the album name in the folder title as I said... Thanks.

First there are iTunes alternatives.

Next, since you have an iMac you can use Doug's iTunes scripts to fix up such imports. The thing I find some folk flail about is they expect to get their collection perfect without work. Until there's more AI in apps, we'll have to work at it.

The second thing folk try is to get it right now rather than work on it as they have time.
