Natalie's Saturated Microphone

Feb 22, 2009 12:38PM PST

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with Natalie's mic. I listen in my car and crank the podcast up quite loud when I'm on the highway. When she talks, I feel like someone is barfing in my ear.

Not only that, but when she interjects or begins talking, she raises her voice momentarily to the point where blood starts dripping from my ear drums.

One time, the passenger side window of the car next to me on the highway shattered because of it.

I enjoy having her on the show, but get her a microphone that doesn't saturate, or mute it completely.

Sincerely,
Jonathan <owe my ears are bleeding> Cohn.

or maybe not.... I dont know if shes in the studio or not. I do know that other guests use skype to connect and although they sounds like they're on a cell phone, they dont reach the audio limits and cause it to saturate like she does.

I'm pretty sure it's an ISDN link

To get studio quality (or close), most often ISDN equipment is used point to point, such as the Telos Zephyr models and/or Comrex.

As far as her mic goes, it's probably a "set and forget" at her end, so if she distorts there, there's no way Jason can compensate for it. If it's just a matter of levels, her mic should go through some kind of processing at Jason's end so as to equalize it out in the mix.
