NAS Recommendation?

Oct 18, 2006 10:25AM PDT

Our company is thinking of buying a NAS for backup purposes. We are thinking of saving files on NAS, so that if our server goes down one day, the workstations can still access to information from the NAS while we are fixing the server. The files that we are referring here are mostly artwork files, documents and Paradox tables.

Our server currently has around 150GB of hard disk space only. And actually only 40-50 GB were used.

So, is there any suitable and reliable NAS model, and brand to recommend?

Oh ya, and there are around 35 workstations connected to the server.

been looking myself

i have yet to deploy a nas setup (& actually came here to ask a few questions myself), but i've been on the market & i'd suggest checking out a thecus unit. they provide a variety of enclosures. for entry level, you might want to check out the YES box n2100 (800GB). the n4100 has received numerous praise by techies (which is why i started looking at thecus), but i can't seem to get a straight answer as to whether it's a 1TB or 2TB unit. the one that impresses me the most is the n5200 - 5 hot-swap drives, printserver capabilities, 4-port switch & the ability to connect a wifi dongle (plus 3+TB of storage!!). *drools all over keyboard*

you don't want to overbuy, but remember that buying a scaleable unit (such as the n4100) allows you to expand your nas as your storage demands increase. i think you can pick one up (drives not included) for ~$500.
