Narrowed down to a few models -- need help

Thank you to the people who helped me with choosing a format. I will be using mostly for family/kids outdoor sports, birthday parties, school plays, and other outdoor and indoor family events. I have been researching MiniDV format, and have narrowed it down to a few models: Sony DCR-HC 96 and 90, and the Panasonic PV-GS320 and 300. I can see pros and cons to all. Just wondering if anyone has had any personal experience or advice?

I'd probably be leaning in the direction

of either Sony (HDR-HC90 or HDR-HC96). They both have the Sony proprietary "active interface" shoe which can use Sony proprietary mics - or an adapter from B&H video to attach any mic or XLR adapter with a 1/8 inch mic plug.

You may also want to consider:

for mounting a 3rd party external mic if you get one - the Sony proprietary active interface shoe is smaller than a standard cold shoe mount.

The Panasonics are good camcorders - please don't misunderstand - but there is no mic-in jack on either of those you listed.
