Naming my wireless connection

Sep 9, 2005 1:29AM PDT

I have a utility that shows all the availble wireless networks in my area. Some of them have names. I think mine is "default". Where would I be able to change that so that I can easily identify my own network? Also, my wireless router is in my basement and I don't think I get a connection in my attic. I may be connecting on someone else's network. Ethical/legal problems?

The name is in your router's setup page.

But since you didn't name the make/model I can only share a generic answer.

-> To improve your upstairs connection, look at www.freeantennas.com and fashion a simple reflector.

If set to defaults, point to...

http://192.168.0.1 login and click on the Wireless box and change the SSID to what you wish. Also on the LAN box, fill in the optional Local Domain Name.

Best of luck and be sure you have their latest firmware. It cured a few bugs since I got this one.
