if enough of them get really radical, it could be another can of worms they've opened up for Kerry because it could backfire and help Bush.....

A number of the radicals have been arrested already. Some were able to get into the hotel through the fire-stairwell (where's security when you need them?) and up to the roof to lower a banner. Left in metal bracelets with boys in blue as escorts.

Truly hoping this doesn't get violent.........

Anyone likely to be planning to cause that kind of trouble probably isn't a Kerry supporter. My money would be either on Nader, the Socialist candidate or nobody.

These are anti-Bush protests, not pro-Kerry protests.

As for the naked people, I saw it on the news and you didn't miss anything, trust me. Wink

Perhaps, but after months of ABB (although you've not stated that personally to the best of my recall), it's a bit hard to separate the two.

And even many of the democratic ads have played indirect homage to the ABB idea all the way back to the beginning of the primaries, IMO.

All this talk about anarchists and violent protests -- that kind of thing tends to come from the extreme left. People that far to the left (or right) don't tend to be "for" anyone, just against people.

For the record, would I vote for one of my cats' hairballs before I'd vote for Bush? Yeah, probably.

wondering

In reply to: Re: Actually

Since the comment was made in this thread that the naked protestors were protesting for more AID help, why do you suppose they weren't protesting for the same thing during the Kerry DNC and waited for Bush's? Timing is everything and if they truly were protesting for more funding for AIDS, you would think that they would cover BOTH conventions to get their point across, dontcha think?

I seriously doubt that these people were/are more anti-Bush than pro-Kerry like you think...unless they believe that Bush will actually win and if they make their case public prior to HIS RNC, they might make an impact that they don't think will happen with Kerry at all.

A guess

In reply to: wondering

They only had the resources to organize one protest and they decided to concentrate on the candidate they consider less likely to be willing to help them. And since Bush is an incumbent, he could get the ball rolling right away as opposed to next year.

Again, just a guess.

stage a protest? There wasn't anybody willing to do it at the DNC in another city, which also got live tv coverage that would have promoted their protest and cause? Kinda hard to believe, Josh....these groups are generally pretty well organized all over the country and have no problem finding people willing to go the extra mile to make their point, especially AIDS groups because it affects so many.

Like I said, I was just guessing

Who knows. Maybe they thought the NYPD would be more likely than the Boston PD to have a sense of humor and let them stand there naked for a few minutes before arresting them.

Those naked ones, about a dozen in number, were protesting for more AIDS help.

If all of the NY protesters went naked, at least there would be less worry about hidden weapons. Happy

Anyway, NY is prepared for it. It won't be like the one in Chicago in the '60s.
