N.Korea Nuclear Program Older Than First Believed

Mar 12, 2004 9:17AM PST
Another official said that just when Khan supplied actual centrifuges to Pyongyang remains unclear but there was "information exchange" and discussions about the "parameters of cooperation" on an HEU program as far back as 1991.

"It does suggest that the cooperation was somewhat earlier, that North Korea began HEU at an earlier date than might have been thought before," he said.

So this program was full speed ahead, and continued unabated, while Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter agreed to give N. Korea lots of energy resources to stop it. They also, apparently, thought verification would be rude and/or offend the N. Koreans. Do we really need another 'internationalist' democrat running the country?

Hint - it wasn't Clinton OR Carter.

So what were THEY DOING when their chance came?

It's expecting quite a bit to think that intelligence would pick up on a new program that quickly, but Clinton had eight years to figure it out. Also, I didn't see anyone else subsidizing N. Korea for a completed 'negotiation'.
