But then again I've seen that when Norton expires.

I've tried this "Repair" in Notepad 3 times and still nothing changes..I still cannot get in my IE or my AOL. Thanks for the help. Still looking for answers....
Bob may have a point about Norton. You should download the " Norton Removal Tool " to a USB stick, and run it on your XP rig, (presuming that you have Norton installed on it ) .
There's more to this than Notepad. Some folk just do this "in Notepad" but didn't do the other steps.
Then again, there's that Norton issue but you didn't reply about that.

I do not use the Norton software, I've had toooooo many problems with their software in the past & I still do not trust their stuff. This whole problem started when I was using Windows Recovery Consule to try & fix various problems i was having with my XP. I would be able to download E-bay's Turbo Lister and then never be able to find it anywhere on my HD, no matter where or how I searched....
As it stands, with only the clues supplied I'd begin the hunt for malware.

Many thanks for this...I will try it all as soon as I can....
You should also know that I have tried every Malware/anti-virius (Spybot/Malwareanti-virius/ComboFix) that I know of..I run all 3 several times in my computer and no changes so I don't think it's a bug...suspect it's a bad file and/or managled file(s) that is doing the damage...This all started when i tried to use Windows Recovery consoule off my XP Home CD to try & make my XP perform better...lots of help that did!!???
But I'd have to know exactly what was done at the Microsoft XP CD Recovery Console to guess what to do next.
Most of the time, when the Windows OS CD is used we get to reinstall drivers for the motherboard and then the wifi card.

Many thanks to all of you who contributed to these wonderful answers & questions.

As it turns out, my problem was not a bug or a virius of some kind, which was the most popular possibiliti, but that all MY SERVICES HAD BEEN TURNED OFF????!!! My computer couldn't locate any of it's devices or drives because IT COULDN'T FIND THEM????!!!
And since this somehow happened when I was using Windows Recovery Consule to try & solve some minor problems, It makes me wonder what "Recovery" is REALLY DOING when it's being run....
Use Windows Recovery with caution.....
Any of the safe mode and diagnostic boots can turn off services.
There is much to learn to use those tools but let's get you a link about services and the defaults.
