My windowsXP installer service is missing. Please Help!

by firekat1419 / November 20, 2007 9:55 AM PST

When I try to install or unistall most programs I get an error1709 message that tells me that my windows installer service cannot be reached or found. Recently I was trying to clear space on my C drive by moving files to my (partioned) G drive and may have accidentally moved it? I don't have a system restore disk because the computer is a hand me down from an ex boyfriend. It is a homebuilt computer. Is there anyway to fix this? non of the free downloads that I have found work because the installer is missing! Please help! Thank you!

OK Then, Try This.. Be Sure To Save Windows Installer 3.1..
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / November 20, 2007 11:49 PM PST
In reply to: Thank you, but...

Click on Start-Run and in the "Run" line, type msiexec /unreg (note the space after "msiexec") and press "Enter". Next, access the "Run" line again and type msiexec /regserver (note the space) and press "Enter".

After you've done the above, then run the Windows Installer 3.1 installer again. Hopefully it works.

Hope this helps.
