my windows update do not work

iam using windows xp sp2 but my automatic updates dont work i viist msn windows update site but that does not work too, iam using zone alarm and i turned off to see if that was the problem, no that is not the problem, i went to control panel and open system and i choose automatic updates and apply but still not working, canot update my computer, i need some help. thank you.
