Question

My wife is going to Korea via 'Nam in Sept.

Jul 25, 2019 12:37PM PDT

My smartphone messaging won't go overseas. (Verified when my brother went to Germany.)
How do I text for free with no wifi at home?
I don't need video or phone audio, just text.
I have virtually unlimited data.

Answer
Too little detail.

We have coworkers that go to South Korea and Whatsapp and SMS is fine. You'll have to tell more to figure this out.

Germany and Korea are different countries.

Maybe that's it.
My brother went to Germany, warning me that we wouldn't have SMS. He was right. Didn't even save my messages to him. No problem; he's just my brother. Happy

I just realized I should start with my mobile provider. (Cricket, using AT&T system.) I'll appreciate any information in the meantime.

I told my brother, a retired AT&T/Longlines engineer*, that the electrons don't know or care where they're going. He pointed out that the electron providers do. BTW when I pressed Send no one asked me for extra money.

* People call Dilbert a comic strip. He says it's a documentary.

Idiocracy (2006)

As to the SMS, that's partly why we use more than one communication app. SMS fails? Try via Whatsapp.
