My USBs Have Disappeared from The Device Manager

The USBs have just vanished from the Device Manager on my laptop. System restore has no effect. Is a reload necessary or can anyone offer any remedial advice?

you can check the "view" drop down menu in device manager and see if it has a dot / check by, show hidden devices.

Yes I checked in hidden devices and found that the USBs branch on the tree has gone.
