General discussion

My tracked discussions.

Mar 11, 2011 5:43AM PST

Just curious.

Is any one else having a problem with removing old discussions?

Using FF....NG....use to work fine.
Also tried with I.E........NG.

Thought I'd check before I chased my tail around.

Discussion is locked

I daren't try.

I have hundreds now, and I daren't try.

What happened when you tried?

Did you notice the new option to "Tick all", then you can untick the ones you want to retain.

Well
Mar 11, 2011 7:08AM PST

What use to work was.

Untick an item.....then I would see.
"This tracked discussion has been removed from your list."

Then I would refresh the page and the item was gone and the number of tracked discussions was one less.......works fine.

Now what happens is.
Untick an item...and I see.
"This tracked discussion has been removed from your list".
Refresh the page and the item may or may not be gone but the number of tracked discussions remains the same.

If the item is gone.
A refresh of the page may or may not bring it back.....magic.

As for working it backwards.....untick all and retick the keepers.

That might work if you only have a few but not practical if you have many.

Same thing happening
Mar 11, 2011 9:58AM PST

I marked 11 of 12 to be deleted and they all returned either on refresh page or on leaving cnet
When I returned they were again listed.

Might just be a slight delay...

When in doubt, give it a minute for the change to be fully processed and propagate to all servers. It happens now and then, but generally works itself out.

Deleted and waited 3 minutes when refreshed page they all returned

Well
Mar 11, 2011 6:29PM PST

That makes me feel better.

Someone else also sees the issue.

I doubt that waiting is the fix as I just looked 8hrs later and the entries are still there.

Now what we need is someone to say it works for them and then we need to compare notes......what's different.

Same problem with me now.
Mar 11, 2011 6:38PM PST

Last night, (UK time), I deleted 3 pages of tracked discussions. The list should have changed from 32 to 29 pages. Yep, I have 32!

Checked again this morning and all 32 are still there.

Tried again to delete two, went away then back again, and they are still there.

Also, I see no logic to the listing. Not date first nor alphabetical. So that means I would have to check each one in the list to not remove those later ones I want to keep.

Since John is tracking this it will be pushed up the line as a bug.

Hey Mark...
Mar 12, 2011 2:11AM PST

Tracked threads are ordered by the date you tracked the thread, whereas the date displayed is the date the thread was started. I'd love to have the option to sort tracked discussions myself, but hopefully that clears up the current order.

As to un-tracking threads, I seem to be experiencing the issue now too. The request is being sent and a 'success' response received, but clearly that's not the case. Might have to activate the bat signal on this one if it doesn't self-correct. Sad

Glad it's not just us.

I'm confident now that we're not all going mad.

You guys are lucky
Mar 11, 2011 11:22PM PST

I still can't get any notifications of tracked discussions, no matter how many, or how few, I have in my list.

Sad

Time to report this
Mar 12, 2011 3:49AM PST

to Lee perhaps, Pete?

Any possibility some spam filter is taking them out?

Mark

Hopefully that's it...
Mar 12, 2011 9:36AM PST

The alerts are sent from an outgoing-only email address, so if the alert emails bounced there would be no one to receive the bounce notification. I know Pete's been long-affected, but haven't seen any other reports as of yet.

Please let me know if you start receiving the notifications.

Thanks!

Truly I am! I didn't even know that you could disable tracked thread notification, only newsletters and such. But if I had known... Devil

Now that it is working,
Mar 15, 2011 3:01AM PDT

how about it tells you what forum the alert is from or which thread in what forum/

P

Which thread it does...
Mar 15, 2011 3:30AM PDT

Though the formatting could be MUCH better as it's easy to overlook. Look for the line just above the links that reads:

Please click below to be taken to the thread. New posts in "<thread title here>"

Here's hoping that the notification format and links will be addressed soon.

John

Oh! You mean this line?
Mar 16, 2011 10:05AM PDT

Please click below to be taken to the thread. New posts in "My
tracked discussions.:"

Kinda helpful in an unhelpful sort of way, don't you think?

Mar 21, 2011 6:52AM PDT

You should now be able to unsubscribe from your tracked discussions.

Please try it out and let me know if you see any more issues.

Thank you for your patience and we do apologize for all the troubles.

Cheers!

I went for it. I have deleted the whole of my Tracked Discussions database.

34 pages, well over 1000 threads. I now have no tracked discussions.

The feeling of freedom is, overwhelming! Happy
