Question

My Tracfone call and my VZ land-line have the same ph number

May 11, 2014 6:48AM PDT

My Tracfone call and my VZ land-line have the same phone number; now what?

VZ (Verizon Fios) says I need to call Tracfone about the issue. (They, apparently, do not care that another carrier is using a # that they own!)

Tracfone said that they would have to deactivate the phone; however, they also say that if they deactivate the phone that I would loose the number with VZ Fios!
They claim that they would tell VZ that I no longer want the number and that VZ would, therefore, cancel my number. If VZ were to do that, I would no longer have a VZ land-line.

Did someone try to port a number?

Well, yes, me! I mistakenly ported-in my VZ land-line to my new Tracfone! Shocked

I realized my error and called Tracfone within seconds after doing it and they said it was too late, that they had already ported the number.
So I've been trying for 9 days to fix this, but they both say the other must fix it.

I'm reposting this because, with the other post with this same body content, I changed the Subject line so that it was correct; however, I don't know if that means that that reply is part of a new post. I don't usually see forums where one has to constantly enter the Subject. Normally, one just has to use 'reply' and can then type in their message.

Verizon may want a new contract to port the number. (Maybe ?)

The last incident I heard like yours

...didn't end well Sad. It merely means you have to re-install a VZ landline, and likely at some cost (~100+), depending on where you reside in the U.S. (a la various taxes, fees, costs of doing business in a particular locale).
AFAIK, once you port the number is no longer Verizon's. They simply cannot/will not absorb any residual costs involved in this process since it is so built into their model of doing business now.

You basically learned a valuable lesson about checking numbers before pushing the nuclear button Sad.

I've only heard this a few times.

And it never ended well. Talk to all parties and take the least painful exit.

... They each say it's not their responsibility to fix it and neither of them want to be on a conference call so we can all talk; so, I have 1 number & 2 carriers--should be fun!

Technically speaking
May 12, 2014 2:27AM PDT

It *is* neither of their responsibility, if you read the terms of porting before pressing the button. Ugh Sad
