My Tool Bar and Quick Launch Have Flip-Flopped

Mar 20, 2005 11:04AM PST

My OS is Win98SE.
I had just installed a new HP Scanjet 3970 and after completion I noticed the tool bar and quick launch had changed places.
Originally quick launch was next to the start button and task bar was between quick launch and system tray.
The icons in quick launch have also been rearranged but I can fix that.
How can I changed back to the original order?

DC, Did You Try?
Mar 20, 2005 11:49AM PST

....RIGHT clicking on a blank area of the taskbar at the bottom, choose "Toolbars", then close all toolbars and the Quicklaunch bar by UNCHECKING each option. Basically you want to "clear" that taskbar area of any toolbars. Once it's clear, RIGHT click on the tasbar again, choose "Toolbars", then select the "Quicklaunch" option. It should now place itself next to the "Start" button. If you want anything else back, select that one also.

Hope this helps.

Grif, It Didn't Work
Mar 20, 2005 11:35PM PST

I had tried every combination to no avail. I followed your directions and that didn't work either.
This "problem" is not earth shattering and I can learn to live with the new configuration. However, it bugs me that I can't correct it.

DC, Did You UNLOCK The Taskbar When Doing It?
Mar 21, 2005 3:47AM PST

RIGHT click on a blank area of the lower taskbar, then de-select "Lock Taskbar".

You might also check the taskbar settings. RIGHT click on a blank area of the taskbar, choose "Properties", then make sure that "Show Quicklaunch" is CHECKED and UNCHECK "Group Similar taskbar buttons".

Hope this helps.

Grif ?????
Mar 21, 2005 4:25AM PST

When I right click on the taskbar I see no mention of "Lock Taskbar". The choices available are:
Toolbars
Links
Address
Desktop
Quick launch
New toolbar

Cascade windows
Tile windows horizontally
Tile windows vertically
Minimize all windows

Properties
Always on top
Auto hide
Show small icons in start menu
Show clock

When I right click on taskbar and choose properties I see no mention of "Show Quick Launch" or "Group Similar taskbar buttons".
I hope this is not too much information but I thought it may help you to know what I am seeing.

Sorry, I'm On An XP Machine...

I incorrectly mentioned the "Lock Taskbar" option. It's not available on Windows 98.

Left mouse button and drag it back
Mar 21, 2005 8:32AM PST

there are horizontal divider bars between them so you should be able to hover your mouse over the left bar next to the QL current position, hold down the left mouse button, and drag it to the start button....the taskbar area will swap places with it automatically.

Eureka!!! or Thanks Toni
Mar 21, 2005 10:57AM PST

I guess "eureka" ("I have found it") is not appropriate as I didn't find it, you came up with the solution for which I am grateful.
I had dragged those bars back and forth repeatedly but just hadn't dragged that one far enough to the left.
Thanks again, Toni.
BTW, this is not the first time you have bailed me out.
