Have you checked to see if the adapter is negotiating with the switch at 100/full or 1000/full like it should be? Could be a simple negotiation issue and your adapter is connecting at 10/half and the switch is taking a TON of errors and your traffic is suffering.

If worse comes to worse and you have an open slot (even a plain old PCI slot) I'd grab a gigabit adapter online & try it out. They're super cheap.

One of the most common reasons for a slow computer are programs running in the background. Remove or disable any TSRs and startup programs that automatically start each time the computer boots. Tip: To see what programs are running in the background and how much memory and CPU they are using, open Task Manager.

I had a FAST 2GB Windows 10 desktop.

Why it worked fast was we replaced the HDD with SSD. Long story was it was an old Core2Quad desktop and RAM was more than the SSD so it got the SSD treatment and it was booting in about 30 seconds.

If your computer is infected with a virus or other malware, it may start communicating with the outside world and use up computer resources for the purpose.
A fault with the network card or cable could cause the network drivers or other components of the OS to time out, crash or otherwise misbehave.
