General discussion

My software is hijacked and cnet will do nothing about that!

Dec 8, 2010 3:17PM PST

I am the author (creator) of the software which by some how is attached to another person/company.
I remember posting it myself on cnet about 5 years ago.
Recently I just discovered and tried to rectify that problem with cnet.
However I am receiving the standard replies every after 5 days and that is going nowhere.
I am convinced that the mishap is caused by the cnet.
The other person/company does not offer anything similar on its website and my querries to support are not answered.
What legal recourse I may have agains cnet?

I've reported this
Dec 8, 2010 8:33PM PST

I've passed this on to Lee the Forum Admin and he will contact the Upload.com team.

They will want to know what software, and the Download.com web page url it is listed on, so if you could provide that it would speed things on.

Hope that helps, and hang on...

Mark

Go to my profile page:
http://www.cnet.com/profile/Lee+Koo+(ADMIN)/

On the right hand column click on "Email" and send me an email with all the details of your situation. As Mark suggested, please include all specifics about your product, title, links to your product on CNET Download.com, and your contact info. And I will forward it to the CNET Upload.com support team directly for investigation.

Thanks!

Thank you for your interest in this

Last night, as soon as I posted that problem in the forum I have received what I wanted from cnet. That site was restored back to my profile.
However, there are still lingering unanswered questions to that puzzle and I will do everything in my power to get to the bottom of this.
I am 100% sure that CNET Publishing Services are fully responsible to everything what happened wrong to that software.
Short story:
software title: Auto Dialer Pro
url: http://download.cnet.com/Auto-Dialer-Pro/3000-2064_4-10417119.html?tag=mncol;3
I have created it and added it to my cnet listing in 2005 (ver.1.0)
The software which was restored last night back to my listing was ver.4.7 carrying the last update date as of April, 2007 with 4155 downloads.
The hijacked site had the current software version of 6.3 last updated February, 2010
with 700 downloads.
My questions to cnet are:
1.
How is that possible that my software was removed from my listings and added to someone else listing without any consultation (information) with me?
Hint: I suspect it has something to do with online system payment RegNow, which cnet was pushing strongly at that time at us, software developers.
Auto Dialer Pro was the only software in my listings carrying the RegNow payment option.
2.
Where cnet obtained that 2007 *restored* listing from ?

The bottom line:
================
For over 3 years I was denied access to my software, unable to update it and keep it up to standard.
Not only that. Even after informing cnet about that I was declined any help for the last 3 weeks.
The response I had was:
====== Quote======
<snip>
Thank you for submitting your product information for Auto Dialer Pro 6.3. We need you to fix a problem with your submission before we can approve it for listing.

Reason: A listing for the product already exists. We do not allow multiple, separate listings for the same product or company. Auto Dialer Pro v6.3 by NetPicker.net

Sorry for the signature, I wasn't aware.
But also you've removed the link to download the saved screenshots of that hijacked website. Is that also no-no?
Thanks,
Jack

I digged more evidence implicating cnet
Dec 9, 2010 12:23PM PST

I digged more evidence implicating cnet.
Facts:
1.
Auto Dialer Pro was the only software (among 5 others) in my listings connected to online payment merchant RegNow.
2.
At that time (2005-2007) cnet was heavily pushing RegNow as the preferred payment option.
3.
The entity which hijacked my software was software dealer NetPicker.net which was affiliate of RegNow.
It is not the affiliate anymore although still maintains its presence on the web.
