clarence6,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your television.
The IR stands for Infrared Receiver, which is the part that receives the signal from the remote inside of the television. You might try to register your television online (and get 3 extra months), and then call service to see if they'd be willing to give you an extention. It's out of warranty, technically, but maybe they might see things your way.
Does the remote work if you turn off your cable/sat box?
Keep me posted.

my tv is not responding to the remote, was informed by samsung today that the ir sensor could possible went out. the tech didnt know what the ir stands for so i have no idea either. could someone explain? i purchased another remote thinking the other remote went out, it too the new one doesnt do anything cant change channels, control volume, wont turn tv off or on. also there are squiggly lines shaking like cross ways the tv not straight or horizontial thinking that there could be an interference somewhere. of course my warranty is up so i have no protection for services. purchase tv in july 2007. has anyone have or had this problem would appreciate any advice.
thanks
