I have an external 2.5 inch 40 Gigabyte USB portable hard drive connected to my computer running Windows XP Professional. This hard drive is partitioned into two drives labeled J and K. However, frequently my computer will drop the drive, and remount them as if I have just connected them to the computer. When it does this, it will re-assign my drive letters, making some of my programs unable to run. I cannot change the drive letters back to my original J and K drives, unless I restart my computer. Does anyone know how I can prevent my computer from dropping my drive (even though it is still connected) and re-assigning new drive letters. This is driving me crazy!!
