My Personal folder properties missing

Jul 22, 2007 10:01PM PDT

Hi

I recently installed Vista Ultimate on my VAIO FZ11L laptop and everything runs fine, however after i installed all my drivers etc.. i attempted to move the location of my personal folder (formally My Documents on XP) but when i right click on my personal folder 'Properties' is missing, i restarted in safe mode and its missing there too.

I disabled a number of services (in an attempt to get rid of those services you dont use) before i attempted to move my personal folder. Do you think a service i disabled could be something to do with it?

If i access My Computer and select My Personal Folder in the left hand pane then click File in the top menu properties is there but when i click on it nothing happens.

I cant seem to figure it out and nobody seems to have or have had that trouble that i can find on the net. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Limitations...

First let me note that right-clicking the 'personal folder' on the desktop or in My Computer doesn't give the Properties option...you have to browse to browse to C:\Users and right-click that folder. (The others are more or less just logical shortcuts.) Beyond that, note that you can natively redirect the Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. directories using the Location tab in the folder properties but not the personal directory in its entirety. Moving the entire 'personal folder" (C:\Users\You) can be done by editing the registry and moving the contents to the desired location, but it can be problematic and as such is generally best lest alone.

In Addition...

Did you "move" the folder or simply "copy and paste".. There is a difference... Copy and paste tends to lose those "Properties" in the registry while a RIGHT click, drag and "Move" will usually be recorded in the registry and keep things correct.. Note that I said "Usually".. As John stated above, it's generally best to leave the "My Personal Folder" where it is.

Hope this helps.
