My PC at the starting of the reboot process said: "Smart

(Smart) failure predicted on hard disk 1, Fujisu MPG3102AH-(PS)", and then insturcted me to do immediate back ups.

I believe that Fujisu is the second HD which I added later on to my pc, data inside is just some games which I don't care to be lost.

My concern is, will it effect the rest of my system if the Fujisu HD finally crashes?

Thanks for all your helps!

I'll write "Yes."

Here's why. Better than 1/2 the machines I see with multiple hard disks have some software installed on the second drive. Said software will fail along with the drive.

In fact, you can test for this effect today, AFTER YOU BACKUP!!! Just power off, unplug the wide IDE connection from the failing drive and power up.

What happens?

Bonus effect!

Not only do you remove a potential failure, but your machine will run cooler due to less parts and less load on the power supply.

I assume, Strad, that you have the data on the HD backed up?

If not, may I make a (seemingly weird) suggestion?

Remove the failing HD from the PC, place in a plastic bag that seals TIGHTLY (Zip-Lok or the like), seal the bag and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Remove the HD from the freezer and bag, reinstall in the PC, power up and try to get the data off the drive.

I know it sounds bizarre, but it's worked about 75% of the time when I've tried it...
