my online games lagg after i downloaded updates for computer

I just bought this computer used. I have a standard dial up connection of 56k. when I first started using this computer for online gaming it was fine but then these little anoying messages at the bottom right of my screen started to appear. I have windows xp home edition on a dell computer. after I downloaded these "updates" my online games started to lagg. I went into device manager and rolled back anything and everything I could. there was one problem though. everytime I try to roll back my graphing settings the computer says it needs to restart...normal right. well...when I restart the computer everything from my log on screen to my desktop is HUGE. and then it says that windows has finished updateing new hardware and askes to reboot again. And when I reboot again and go back to device manager it is still running the updated version of the hardware...what should I do

online gaming
You might want to disclose the site?

these little annoying messages at the bottom right of my screen"
Please tell more, I don't have them and can't guess what they were.

these "updates"
Which updates? From what site?

Device Manager
Never seen anybody 'rolling back' anything in device manager.

anything and everything
Which is?

lagg
What do you mean with that?

What should I do?
- Go back to your last good system restore point.
- Make your problem much clearer to get more (and better) help.
- Possibly: download and install the correct driver for your video card, but I advise to wait a little bit until things are cleared up, because it doesn't seem to be a part of the original problem.

first...games on battle.net,second,I dont really know what they are but the message reads somthing like this "There are now new updates for your computer...update now?", third,i dont know the site, they are auto updates from either dell or microsoft, forth, once in device manager if you right click on one of the devices and goto "drivers" then click "roll back" it is supposed to return that device to whatever it was using before it got updated, fith,I tryed to roll back every device to its previous state, lagg is a term for "high latency"

Just some simple advice. Don't take drivers from Microsoft update. If you do, your choice.
