My old Nikon Coolpix 3200 is gone.. what's next?

Nov 3, 2005 1:02AM PST

Hi there guys!
I thought it was time to change my old camera Nikon Coolpix 3200 which really gave lots of good moments and shots.. I would like to keep going on Nikon brand, but as i said, im open for any suggestion or tip.

My budget is 250-280US$ (not including the shipping fees to Spain).

Im not a guy who like to use manual controls, i jst like everything automatic, and let the camera do it job.. jst changing the scene depending if im indoor, outdoors, nightshoot, etc... The camera excellent pictures for any kind of scene, since im thinking of using it for all-around, and i dont care abt the video option.

I also like big LCD screen, and i dont mind if it uses lithion rechargable battery or 2 4AA batteries... And bout the memory card, i would prefer SD, but that's not important..

I was thinking of this ones, which i think, maybe, not sure, can satisfy:
- Nikon Coolpix S1 or S3 (if i have enough budget)
- Casio Zoom EX-Z110 or EX-Z120
- Canon Ixus 50
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8
- SONY Cyber-shot DSC-W5
- Canon A610
- Casio Z750
- Nikon 7900
- Casio EX-Z55 or EX-Z57
- Canon SD400 or SD500

But i really need ur opinion, tips and suggestion... jst knowing that what i want is an ALL-AROUND camera, almost fully automatic... so called "POINT and SHOOT", with big LCD.. (2.5").

Waiting for ur answers, thanks in advance.

From Barcelona (Spain),
Isaac

Just a suggestion but

If I were you I would go for the camera with image stabilization built in. That would be The Panasonic DMC-FX8 or 9. 9 has the longest battery time and some other improvements.

What Next?

You chose a fine list of cameras, but I noticed that only one matched the price of ($250-$280 US$). The others cost more.

Also:
Not all have a 2.5inch LCD.
Two have manual controls.

You may want to review your shopping list.
Here is a look at their specifications side-by-side:

Thanks, snapshot2..
It is really hard to choose.. but i appreciate ur tips and suggestions, and thanks of that comparation side-by-side, i have shorten up my list (forget my english, pls Silly )

- Canon PowerShot SD400
(the SD500 a bit expensive for my budget)
- Panasonic DMC-FX8
- Nikon Coolpix 7900

Althouth the Exilim Z57 or Z55 both looks nice, big screen, great quality image, and the Z55 is a budget for the specs, right?.. hehe..
still undecided.. but well, shorten up the list..so, for my needs, which one is better?

Thanks in advance!

no doubt.

you either go for the Ixus 50 or the Coolpix S3. I am always impressed by the colours and exposure of the Ixus 50. but recently i saw some pics taken by the S3 (which i assume not to be very different from S1) and they totally blow me away. Hence the new champion in this compact category has emerged - Coolpox S3. I could explain more in all technicalities how the images produced are better. but i doubt anyone shopping for camera in this category would be bothered. let your eyes be the judge, bring your own SD card and go check out the cameras!

wow.. someone who said something good abt the Nikon S3!!
Nov 3, 2005 7:58PM PST

hey, thanks a lot nikkei, at last someone gave some good review abt these new Nikon S ultra-compact cameras.. i didnt heard really good reviews abt them, and it was a pitty, cos i jst love Nikon...
The Ixus 50 = SD400, right?.. yeah, it's also a choice that im thinking abt..

Althought the Nikon 7900 has the most numbers.. good reviews everywhere, too bad only has 2" LCD screen..

I will wait for couple of suggestions or opinions more and after this weekend i will decide which one.. (i hope, its really a headache.. hehe)

Nikon Coolpix

i got an S3 about 2 months ago, and the thing is sweet! the lcd is bigger than on most other compact digitals i looked at, and the resolution is frighteningly good. it has a ton of scene assist modes that make it pretty easy to use. i would definitely recommmend.

i also tried out some of the new wifi enabled cameras that nikon came out with. i think it was the p2. those are also really cool, a bit more money then your budget but they seemed to be pretty good cameras.

i still like the Coolpix 7900 and the Lumix FX9 the Casio EX-Z750.. it might be a hard choice.. but any more tips or suggestions also welcome Wink
