My old Dell keyboard will not connect

I purchased a new Desktop - Inspiron 546 MT- because my wife likes the keyboard from the old Dell computer I pluged it in. I get a error message--device not recognized. The keyboard, Dell Model # SK-8000, was working just fine with the old computer. Note to connect it I had to use an Adaptor-PS/2 Female to USB AM. I called Dell unable to resolve problem; indicate they will get back to me.
