My notebook advertised 512 Ram with actual Memeory 479 Ram?

Mar 28, 2005 11:24PM PST

Toshiba M35X-S161 Satellite Notebook advertised its ram memory 512, however from "My Computer" properties showed only 479. I phoned Toshiba Tech Support regarding the issue. I was told by Toshiba that the part of total memories is shared with the on-board Intel Extreme Graphic and that's why only 479 ram has been showing.
It's my first computer, I am not sure. Would you all accept this explaination?

Thanks, your feedbacks are appreciated!

On board graphics share main memory
Mar 29, 2005 2:48AM PST

On board graphics share main memory so the Intel Extreme graphics controller is sharing main memory. Dedicated graphics have there own memory so they don't have to share main memory, that's why it's saying you only have 479 MB of ram. Your video is borrowing 33 megs of ram. Anytime is says it uses Integrated video, it will share main memory. If you aren't a gamer then have a IG card is ok but if you want to play 3D games then get a notebook with Dedicated video memory. Toshiba Tech. support were telling you the truth about sharing main memory with the video card.
