Question

My new cpu only shows 1 core in bios and 2 in windows but it

Apr 17, 2015 5:13AM PDT

I recently got a amd fx 4300 and once i checked it out in the bios it only shows the 0core and no other cores, i used the core unlocker and nothing changed. In windows it shows 2 cores but games run terribly, worse than my previous cpu which was much worse than the fx 4300 even with only 2 cores active. I looked at the motherboard specs and it supports up to 8 cores and 95w cpu's.
Specs
amd fx 4300 black edition 3.8ghz
4gb 1333mhz ram
asrock 960gc-gs fx
500w evga power supply
hd 7950
So far i reset the cmos. Updated bios. Messed around with the core unlocker and the options that were avaible in the bios. None of these helped, but now it doesnt show core0 as activated, it just doesnt show anything.
Please help.

Answer
Reading the Asrock site here. And more. 2 CORES!

"Elegant design that matches its outstanding compatibility for legacy components"

The FX 4300 could be that FD4300WMW4MHK and supported.

But after reading http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/351160-28-4100-cores it looks like you are seeing exactly what you see. Try CPUID next time.

I have no clue what any of this means. So is this how its suppose to work ? I get avg 6fps on hitman absolution with the fx3400 and with my old semprom 145 i get avg 50-60. Please explain if you can

So you have a 2 core CPU and see 2 cores.

As to FPS speeds that's usually not a CPU issue at all.

I wonder if that is a single stick of ram and the new CPU is showing what happens when you don't have a pair of memory sticks?

My point was that it is unusual that the framerate acts like that. No changes were made when swapping the cpu and we can both agree that the fx4300 is much better than the semprom 145.

It could be.

Dual channel, also i will get around reinstalling windows tonight and see. Also could the motherboard throttle because of it being pretty bad? Thank you by the way.

Tell why you think it's bad.

Some folk don't clean, apply fresh compound (CPU and GPU) and the list goes on and on.

Any noisy fan is a bad fan.

While I don't think a fresh install in required, I could be wrong. I would at least checked that CPU limit number.
