Question

My new computer freezes and I have no idea as to why.

Apr 17, 2015 5:39PM PDT

So I had recently built a new computer, and I can play some games alright. But when I launch some games, or even a few minutes into some, it freezes completely on me, examples of those games are CS:GO, Diablo 3, sometimes World of Warcraft. Like the screen freezes at the last scene it was at, but the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing, still unresponsive, I have to hold down the power button on my computer to turn it off after, and it turns back on just fine. When I had run stress tests, it passes everything, but as soon as I try a graphics stress test it repeats the same process, I have no idea what this is.

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core
GPU: Geforce GTX 960
Memory: 8GB RAM
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 PRO
If you need anymore info please let me know and I will get it for you.

The 5 most probable options:
- insufficient power supply
- insufficient cooling
- bad videocard
- bad drivers
- bad motherboard

It's up to your, as system builder expert, to find out which of the 5 applies and fix it.

How would I know if it's bad Drivers? Would I just have to uninstall and re install them? Same about bad mobo and bad Video Card? How would I find out? And I doubt it's insufficient power supply, being that I'm 100 watts over the max that it requires, and also I doubt it's the cooling, the temps never go high.

Did you try dxdiag?

It might tell something.

For hardware, you run the manufacturers diagnostics or you try other, until it works.
