Obama was NEVER a community organizer here in Pullman as the news reporter states. That's a crock of BS.
My family has been here in Pullman for 55 years and never even heard of him until he was a Senator that never showed up to vote on anything.

This is all about black history month and he's trying to eeek his name somewhere into Pullman's history and lay claim to making this a natl. park but ,we were working on this when I was a child and plans were being made before Obama was born.

I used google maps to find the location

and it comes up with "Pullman State Historic Site" and something about "hotel florence dia de los muertos"...(day of the dead). Sounds like a place I might not want to stay. Wink

Well , it's a under construction now
Feb 10, 2015 5:27AM PST

but you've seen it before in some of the pics i've posted. It's kitty cornered form my house.
They're turning it into a museum .
I played in there when I was a kid . It still had tenants than and a gorgeous formal dining room and a beautiful bar area . We used to know the secret passages between the walls and scared the britches off of folks on halloween.

I met Florence Pullman ( George Pullman's daughter whom the hotel was named after)in the 60's when Pullman was designated a Historic Site. Obama wasn't around than either.

You aren't thinking clearly
Feb 10, 2015 11:26AM PST

So you dispute the fact that he was a community organizer because he wasn't famous while he was doing it back when first out of college(?) You aren't thinking clearly here. How would anyone not directly involved with his group of community organizers necessarily have to know him by name?

FWIW, I have friends who, at one point, lived near him on the South Side and never knew him then either. <shrug>

Truth be told, is there really anything else worthwhile in Pullman that could potentially boost your property values?
You had better jump on that ASAP.

Not Really, I'm thinking chrystal clearly
Feb 10, 2015 3:17PM PST

He wasn't a community organizer here in Pullman at all , I've lived here all of my life and know all of the real community organizers, I went to school with them.
I'm well aware of what it's doing for the property values and we don't need to jump on anything as the prices have been holding just fine here.
This has been in the works for decades and we didn't need Obama for s***.
He's here to hold Rahm's hand and back him for the mayoral election and to look good during BHM.

After enough time has passed, you can just about get away with any story about your whereabouts and activities...well...almost. Just ask Brian Williams. Devil

Frankly...I believe you.

You might need to identify the street boundaries
Feb 11, 2015 3:06AM PST

From what I remember, it's a fairly good sized geographic chunk of Chicago near Olive Harvey and the Bishop Ford Expwy. So you know everyone who has moved in and out of that area, along with everyone who has done business there too(?) Understand, when he was going door to door, he might have not covered the entire area. He was probably the opposite of a household name then too. Just another guy.

Also, I regularly hear folks referring to their 'hood' in Chicago, but when you hear them mention their street address/locale, it's actually in another adjacent part of town, at least based on how the demarcation is definined(e.g. not really Ukrainian Village, but Wicker Park, etc.). It's obvious how large groups that draw people in from all over a large region might botch such definitions.

What I don't get is, even if he necessarily only hit a few sidestreets in Pullman, why would you have a cow over someone asserting that he is familiar with what goes on there (e.g. the greater issues at hand)?

Ahh That's where your wrong
Feb 11, 2015 3:16AM PST

You're lumping Pullman together. There's North Pullman , South Pullman. South Pullman where I live is the Historic Site and yes I know most family's in South Pullman .

It's easy to understand your confusion as a suburbanite.

You just proved my point
Feb 12, 2015 1:26AM PST

Absolutely. Living there your entire life, you know the families in your 'hood', but there's no way you could possibly track all comings/goings of people not from the area visiting Pullman. That was what I was getting at. If WGN says he was organizing in 'Pullman', and he's familiar with the <general> area, it would be a fair assessment, given that it was the nightly news. Your argument is mostly semantic/geographic, not factual.

FWIW, I do spend time regularly in the city (also own rental in Bucktown; relatives live in Streeterville). My confusion is only when I go south of the Eisenhower Wink

found in their country of origin at a late date. More likely they traveled.
Someone else said there are cameras visible on the pier so there may be other records. However, pro film stock then was flammable and flaky; I don't know about home movie stuff.

Chicago very nice. People friendlier than many other big cities, and the food is always great, like San Francisco. (With all the restaurants in town, yours had better be good.) Went to Wrigley for a game and saw the great F. Jenkins, and the ivy. It was still daytime-only then. Old school stuff. Happy
