My mouse stopped working

Feb 7, 2011 5:33AM PST

Hi - I need some help with my computer mouse.

My computer is a Dell with Windows XP with a USB DELL Mouse.

Recently my mouse will stop working. This happens right after I start my computer, or after an hour or two of my computer running. And sometimes my mouse works perfectly fine, and I never have a problem. I have ESET, Super Anti Spyware, CCleaner, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. I have run all those programs in case I may have a virius/spyware. My computer is thankful clean of those bugs. Any suggestions out there?

Thank You Sad

Quick checks

Be thankful that mice are relatively cheap to replace, it may come to that. But, you should at least clean it up, check batteries if used. I've found if ball type, remove cover and clean lint, etc. from tracks. If optical or laser type, be sure that lens is clean and area is also. If none of that helps, then check the USB port, reseat it several times with power-OFF. Also, clean the USB port itself, they can tarnish. Again, if none if this helps, replace mouse. Now you have a reason for one of those fancy mice. Wink
