Try this......since it's a serial mouse, boot up the computer and get into the bios/setup by pressing the DEL (or F1 or F2) key down a couple of times lightly while the first screen is showing up on the monitor.

Once you get in there, you will have to use the keyboard exclusively to move around with and make changes. Now go to the Integrated Peripherals area if you have one, or look at the MAIN or ADVANCED section depending on how your bios information is laid out.

Look for SERIAL PORT 1 AND SERIAL PORT 2 or COM 1 AND COM 2

Serial Mice always go on the Serial or Com 1 position, so make sure that it is ENABLED in the bios (usually at the 3something/IRQ 4 position)....then go to Save and Exit.

If that doesn't give you access to the Mouse, shut down and look at the back of the computer to see if you have two serial ports.....you may have the mouse hooked up to the wrong one so switch it to the other one, and reboot the computer

Hixc,

Maybe it's not your mouse that's dead, but your serial port. Luckily, neither a PS/2 mouse nor a USB mouse need be very expensive.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
