My monster PC lags after 10 minutes of playing

Hi, I am new here. I have a good gaming PC. However I've encountered an annoying issue. When I play games like GTA IV and ARMA III Alpha, they lag after 5-10 minutes, as though as there's some sort of automatic underclocking here. But the temperature ranges from 50-60 Celcius in GPU, and 40-50 in CPU. However when I play games like Battlefield 4 and Just Cause 2, the performance decreases slightly. For example when i play bf4, the fps goes from 40-50 fps to 30 fps. And just cause 2 in heavily populated area from 60 fps to 40 fps. Clearly there's some sort of underclocking for no obvious reasons here. If you guys can help, it will be very much appreciated! Thanks. (Note that I had a GTX 480, however games lag after a while also)

Spec:
Intel Core i7 2600k
8 GB RAM (3 GB RAM usable since im running on 32 bit windows 7 ultimate)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 760
Cooling master 700w thunder

So it worked fine before?

In reply to: My monster PC lags after 10 minutes of playing

Looking at the dated (it's not out dated!) parts the usual is that it's time to clean and replace heatsink compound on all things with heatsinks. That's cheap to do yet you'll find folk reloading drivers, the OS and searching for a setting when there is some work and fan checks to perform. Some techs new to this will trot out temperature readings.

After the hardware is clean and done we turn to the other areas such as malware and such. Actually I do both areas since we know that malware is so widespread today. Grif's list is what I use. It's at:http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6122_102-5509131.html?tag=posts;msg5509131

Still laggy and remember I'm taking your word it worked fine before I'll start looking at testing/swapping CPU, drives and boards. We also look for USB HDDs since those cause odd lags.

The problem started just when I upgraded intel HD to GTX 480

Umm i cleaned from the dust already, I've scanned thousand times since I have this problem for ages. It worked fine back when i used gt 430 on low settings.

There it is. IObit. Sorry but that has caused odd slowdowns in many systems. I'll leave you to their whims.

I read that guide and it's not one I'd recommend.

Installed iObit recently

In reply to: IObit

It's not iObit, i've just installed iObit currently, before iObit was installed, games still lag after a while.... Wink

It's a factor.

In reply to: Installed iObit recently

I remove and clean when I find it. Since you've done the cleaning, the heatsink (all of them) work then the machine needs repair. I am making assumptions the OS was reloaded and all the work done so that leads us back to some failed hardware.

Or something untold like some USB or other media. Just yesterday a cranky PC stopped being that way when we unplugged some SD card.

Is it my mouse and keyboard USB?

In reply to: It's a factor.

Im using a wireless keyboard and mouse. Could it be the cause of the lag after playing for 5-10 min?

For your information

In reply to: It's a factor.

I cleaned the PC when I used 32 bit a week ago. Now im using 64 bit, seems no fix

Then it's a warranty or repair issue.

In reply to: For your information

What's up isn't evident yet. You've done all the work I noted so time to call its maker to arrange for repair.

temperature or cheats

In reply to: My monster PC lags after 10 minutes of playing

All newer cpu will throttle back their speed to heat. If its set at 50C then when it hits 51 it will chop it back a notch and continue to do so until its shut down. I use to twist the heat sink while its running and hot to make sure it is seated correctly. Heat sinks do warp on their own. Shooting a little freeze onto the heat sink should make an immediate difference just for trouble shooting. Overdue the freeze and you will crack the cpu. Those cans go far below -70F(-28C).
Not having the right chipset drivers will leave them in default generic function. This usually isn't much of a problem any longer since natural selection of consumers have rendered most rare and cruddy chipsets extinct.
Secondly, I used to frequently get blasted with random packets from other players on a server that somehow get my IP address. Spoofed packets designed to give them an edge by clogging your data path. You get a jerky display and lower frame rate since all your processor time is taken up trying to process the garbage and not doing other stuff like game physics, modeling, etc...
Trouble shooting that means just trying a different processor intensive game. If it is OK then its probable a cruddy game server related thing.
