My monitor goes black and freezes when I try to scroll.

Nov 25, 2003 12:55PM PST

Lately, I've had a problem with my display when scrolling pages (on and off-line) and when dragging windows around. It'll go black and my monitor seems to reset and displace text and images when it reappears. I use Windows XP.

I don't know what type of problem this is, but I'm really annoyed by this. Has anyone heard of this before?

A number of possibilities...

First, lets make sure it's not virus or spyware related. Please use either of the free online virus scanners below. Let it delete any infected files that it finds:

Trend Micro's Housecall ONline Scanner

Panda Online Antivirus Scanner

Next, download and install the free spyware removal tools from the links below. After installing the program, update them from within the user interface, then run the program to scan for spyware. Delete all spyware that is found. BE AWARE, some "freeware" programs (such as KaZaa) may cease to function if they are dependent on the spyware to run. Still, it's better to find new freeware than to continue on with the junk:

Ad-Aware 6 Spyware Removal Tool

?Spybot Search & Destroy? Spyware Removal Tool
_______________

If everything comes up clean, then tell us if you've gone to the manufacturer's website and updated the video drivers for your computer. Have you also tried temporarily swapping in a different monitor to see if it helps?

Hope this helps and let us know.
