My Mac cut off and won't come back on, please help!!!

Jan 9, 2006 11:59AM PST

I have had this Mac for about 2 years and it has never had any problems. But just today it cut off for no reason and won't turn back on. Noone was really using it but there was music playing, that is about it. The computer is plugged into the wall and that is usually the only thing plugged into that particular outlet. Sometimes a small extension cord is used for the tv, but we've had the tv and the mac on and have never had a problem. In this instance, I plugged in the cord for the tv and turned it on to make sure it worked, it was on for about 10 seconds and the mac just turned off. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with why it turned off or not, but I tried unplugging it and it won't come back on. I tried holding down on the power button and nothing happened. Any help would be great please!!!! Its a MacOS X

More info?

You're going to need to post more info than that for anyone to help.

What model is the computer? Tower, iMac, desktop, lap top? Be specific. G3 G4 G5? Speed?

You turned on the TV, and the computer shut down ten seconds later. Did the TV shut down too?

Does the computer do anything? Lights, fans, sounds, smoke?

If this is an iMac, not one of those ones with the LCD on a stick or the G5 iMacs, take a look at the power cord going to the Mac. The original shaped iMacs had a habit of "shedding" the power cord. It still looks like it is plugged in but it ain't.
Remove the power cord from the machine, completely, and then plug it back in again. Let us know what happens. You could try the same with the other type of iMacs but they are not as prone to this happening.
As Lampie says, you are going to have to supply a bunch more information than you have for us to be able to help

Sorry I was kinda rushed and irritated. It's an Emac, I'm not as good with macs so I'm not sure what the speed is or anything but I'll try to figure that out. It's kind of hard when the computer won't turn on and there is no info on the outside... The tv still works fine. At first I thought the fuse might have just blown but everything else you plug in that outlet still works. I didn't hear any weird noises when it turned off and nothing is smoking. It just cut off and won't go back on. I'll try and find what the speed is and everything and post it once I do.
