Question

My links to url aren't blue in word

Jul 6, 2014 11:01AM PDT

Please don't yell at me but I have a very old version. It's Word97. It's fine for what I want. Somehow it installed ok on my new Windows 8.1 computer. Now in my document from my old computer the links show up as blue and underlined but any new links I add to it aren't blue and not underlined. They copy ok and are clickable when I post them in forums. I can't seem to find a setting for it. I've compared all the setting from my old computer Word and the new computer Word program. Although I seem to remember the new links weren't blue & underlined on my old computer either. Do you think there is a max in one document?

Actually they are not hyperlinks

I haven't figured out yet how to make hyperlinks in my Word97 (or anywhere actually). I am totally lost trying to figure out hyperlinks, maybe your link will help with that.

The actual url is typed in my Doc, like this...
IRS info for S Corps
http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/S-Corporations

My old ones show up in my document as blue and underlined but new ones I copy to my doc do not. I guess it doesn't matter they still work and are clickable when I copy them to a answer box in forums.

And that is true.

If we paste then we have to watch out what the formatting is/was and often correct that in our new document. I can't guess why the change in behavior but Word97 is likely to need some patches for full/same operation as it was way back when.

HOWEVER, the drive for more security may thwart or remove such features.

Umm I just highlighted a url in my Doc
Jul 7, 2014 8:47AM PDT

and then clicked on the hyperlink icon on the menu bar and it turned blue and underlined. Never had to do that before. Maybe earlier this year when I was trying to learn how to make a hyperlink (which is just some text right?) something got turned on in my doc.

Still can't make a hyperlink that says "click here" and goes to the url. Or like in my post above instead of the address line being posted, the line above it (IRS info....) would be the clickable link to it

Answer
Activate your links

I can only suggest this as I use Office Pro Word 2003...
open word,
click on Tools,
click on AutoCorrectOptions,
click on AutoFormat Tab,
then make sure you have 'Internet and network paths with hyperlinks' is checked!

Hope this helps.
