Question

My LG multimedia HDD works fine on TV but not on windows

Aug 18, 2011 2:52AM PDT

two days back when I disconnected it from TV and connect to laptop it Suddenly didn't recognize the drive. It tried to scan but stopped in halfway (less than usual timing) then auto open screen didn't appear. Badluck I tried to do the backup after say 6months but now I am helpless. Can anypone tells me what wrong happened and how to retrive it. What I did- changed 3 different USB cables, tried on three laptops where it was working before. Also in folder it shows "local disk" zero data, good driver, device manager good drive, disabled, enabled. Power shows on. On TV works fine and I can view/play all the media files. even see my datas there. please help.

I have so little detail to work with that I have only one idea and that the content is protected. It's not unusual but seems to fluster consumers.

My LG multimedia HDD works fine on TV but not on windows
Aug 22, 2011 5:08AM PDT

Hi Bob, I think you were looking for info like model etc. The LG portable theatre hxf2 500GB (Media HDD) which has a toshiba hard disk inside works fine on TV by HDMI cable but few days back suddenly not able to be recognised by even two laptops Windows xp and Windows 7. Also I changed the USB cable twice. Also I checked on windows device manager, it shows their presence OK, driver OK. Disable and again able I did, nothing worked the driver indicates healthy and working. Also I took one SATA external dive adaptor, removed my hard disk toshiba from LG media HDD and connected to the adaptor. Same thing.
In all cases it show a local disk , in property it shows RAW as format instead of NTFS. While I boot windows in LG connected position the blue screen appears and then disk check starts. First stage OK, Second stage only 5% is read and then it disappered and windows boots.
The device as and when connected to laptop pop up a message" you need to format it" I cann't do it unless I take the backup. On TV ( Samsung full HDMI it shows all my media file and they are working flawless. Also I can see the name of drive I gave and all the folders present. What could go wrong. ? I smell some bad sectors for windows , may be some virus. Will there be any hardware issue ?

Please help and let me know how to fix it. It is very important for me to revive it. Last action I remember I converted a .mks movie from WinDVD to .avi and copied it to drive to watch on TV. May be this net downloaded winDVD brings some virus ???

Many DVRs use a proprietary file system in an effort to stop folk from copying recordings.

Nothing new about this and you must ask the maker of the recorder if they did that.

It does not sound like a hardware issue. It sounds like the usual issue.
