My LCD has tape stuck to it

Jun 18, 2005 7:28AM PDT

Hi, my lcd - an older Philips 15" got a piece of duck tape stuck to it. I managed to remove the tape but it left behind a nice wide stripe of gluey sticky stuff that won't come with water or isopropyl alcohol. What can I do!!!!!????? I'm very worried...
thanks all,
marc

You have to risk it.

Use the removed tape and see what solvents work. Then test said solvent on say the bottom right corner to see if it melts the plastic cover.

Just curious, why put duck tape on such a screen?

If you still have the duct tape

try some mineral spirits on the tape itself to see if it will disolve the sticky stuff from the tape. Goo Gone is mineral spirits. Don't use acetone. If you want to start with something a bit less strong, you can try a lemon oil product. Mineral spirits should not eat your screen. Don't rub it. put the solvent in a cloth and dawb it on the glue. Give it time disolve it and then gently remove it with the cloth. You may need to repeat the process. The last cleaning should be with a mild detergent such as dish soap and a then a clear water rinse. Try to contain all activity to the immediate area of the glue. You have nothing to loose here.

Might try this

Have you tried Goo Gone? If not then it might be worth a try. It can be found at Wal-Mart and is a primarily citric acid. It was designed to remove sticky residue left behind from stickers and tape.

I use it to remove heat sink compound on CPU's and chipsets.

Small correction

Goo Gone is not citric acid. It's petroleum distillates (mineral spirits) and has some sort of deodorizer/fragrance. It will soften many adhesives but does not attack most plastics. Lacquer thinners and acetone based products are a no-no on plastics.
