Call the laptop maker and demand a fix or refund.

PS. If you can find more details, add it here for folk to comment or add ideas.

HDMI means HDCP and some HDMI chips are buggy. To see if that's it I unplug the HDMI cables to the TV then remove mains power to the TV. I wait a few minutes for the chips to reset (why did they do this, I don't know.)

Now apply power to the set and try the HDMI device you want to work. This works often enough to make you go huh, but not always.

So your using HDMI In or out?

You want to have TV displayed on laptop or other way around? If your using HDMI out which is 999999999.99999999% of the laptops it mean the problem is on the TV side.

What exactly is "recognise"? What do you do and what happens?

Do other hdmi-sources than your laptop 'recognise' those same TV's that doesn't work with your laptop?

Let me repeat my question.
May 1, 2017 2:23AM PDT

- Do other hdmi-sources than your laptop work on your other TV's?
And add one.
- Does your laptop work with TV's with your friends and family members?

It's nice to have a better diagnosis before you bring the laptop in for repair.

Well I've connected multiple laptops to

multiple TV's. First of all because HDMI passes audio and video signals to the TV you have to make sure that your using the proper playback device. Checking the playback device can be done by right clicking on your speaker icon in the taskbar then select playback devices. The device should say HDMI or maybe the name of your graphics card. Make sure that is active. Next on your TV make sure the INPUT which can be seen on your remote matches the HDMI port it's plugged into on your TV. The TV I use most often has Home theater and I use the HT receiver to connect my HDMI cable to and I have to set the input on the receiver to DVD since the HDMI cable is plugged into the HDMI port labled DVD on the receiver.
