My HP PC Audio

I think I've screwed up. All of a sudden, the audio on my PC has gone dead. Vanished. Kaput. Both speakers (ext.) and headphones. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: no sound

My thoughts:
1. System restore.
2. Check for problems in Device Manager
3. Reinstall drivers
4. Other soundcard
5. Reinstall the OS

What happened recently

I'll add this:
1) Start, Control Panel, Sound... What is checked as working?
2) Click on Adjust system volume....Volume Mixer will pop-up. Is it turned up? Is anything with a RED slash? (turned off).
